From our inception in 2016 as ‘BME Sport Cymru’, we have been at the forefront of championing diversity in Welsh sports. Our journey began with a vision to make sports more accessible and welcoming for minority ethnic communities in Wales. Funded by Sport Wales and led by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA), we have grown into a robust initiative that not only meets but exceeds our goals.

Rajma Begum, has been the driving force behind our success. With a passion rooted in her own experiences and a commitment to social justice, Rajma has led Sport Diversity Cymru to become a beacon of hope and inclusivity. Her leadership has earned her recognition, including an award for her outstanding contribution to Sport, Arts, and Culture at the 2021 Ethnic Minority Welsh Women Achievement Association (EMWWAA) Awards. As a board member of Sport

Wales and an advocate for equality, Rajma’s influence extends far beyond our organisation, inspiring change across the entire sports sector.

Our mission is threefold:

to increase participation in sport, build capacity for engagement, and tackle inequality among ethnic diverse communities of Wales. We have achieved remarkable outcomes in participation, volunteering, workforce events, and partnerships, and our impact has rippled through health, education, community cohesion, and more.

As we continue to grow, Sport Diversity Cymru remains steadfast in our purpose to inspire ethnic minority communities across Wales . We promote our partners, all national governing bodies, and initiatives that align with our values. Our work is funded by Sport Wales, we leverage forums and networking opportunities for greater recognition and visibility.

Join us in our commitment to a more inclusive, equitable, and vibrant sporting future in Wales. Together, we are Sport Diversity Cymru – where every step onto the field is a step towards unity and diversity in action.
